I get to my avatar options. The default tab says "No avatar selected" but I am unable to deselect said tab....

In order to use an avatar, you need to select "Use Custom Avatar" option below, at which point it will automatically deselect the default option. As of now, I do not have any "default" avatars here, so the only option for the members who would like to use an avatar is to use a custom one.

Yeah, me neither.
This should be fixed now... let me know if you are still having problems. Yet another one of the little things I missed the first time around... :o

I think Adam's gonna like my avatar and user name when he comes back.

BTW, I strongly support people changing their avatars as rarely as possible. Makes it easier on me, at least, to figure out who people are instantly.

Just for that, I'm gonna make an effort to change mine at least once a month. :)

Thanks. I wanted to go for something a bit more simple, that wasn't actually a picture of myself. And something that I wouldn't tire of, either.

Very classic looking, and it looks bigger than most people's because of the white background of the avatar on the white background of the skin.

Will there be a way to limit the intrusiveness of avatars? Say, options to view them only at a certain size, disabling GIFs, etc, short of disabling all avatars (as I currently have)?
Or perhaps an option to view posts with user info in a sidebar, a format in which I find avatars, even animated ones, much less intrusive.

I am not sure if it is even an option on vBulletin; as of right now, you might have an option of disabling all avatars, or not disabling them. I will check into this when I have time, and will see if it is possible for users to have an option to limit what type of avatars they see, but I can't guarantee that such an option will become available, as it is primarily a software limitation.
