I'm curious if anyone can recommend any well researched and thorough biographies of the various American Presidents, as well as other major political figures (Hamilton, Clay, etc.).

My goal is to read at least one biography of each president (not that I've set myself a deadline).

I've lately read several books about presidents which were biographical, but focused on particular events in their presidencies. Does that count?

I don't doubt that most will focus much of their attention on their various presidencies. However, I do want to gain a detailed view of as much of their entire lives as possible, so proper biographies are preferred.

I won't turn down any advice, however.

Well, I've read three books recently on three presidents, and each if I recall correctly includes in their bibliographies straight biographies of the men concerned, Garfield, Cleveland, and McKinley, respectively. I read Bill O'Reilly's coauthored work on Lincoln recently too, but would not recommend that.

I don't want to disapoint you because to know about President's biography you need to read at least one book per each President ...anly than you'll get good information about them.
