This SOB clayton keeps offline attacking me - eleven times today! Every time I'd log on to to a debris search I couldn't do anything because the bots were busy healing me.

I hope this guy stays active long enough for me to get powerful enough to smear him...

I hope this guy stays active long enough for me to get powerful enough to smear him...He's just farming you. It means you are giving just the right amount of XP out for him. You're also probably on his enemies list. I do it to a few people, and a few people do it to me. Its no big deal.

It's a sort of text-based MMORPG. You gather experience through such activities as raiding others ships and engaging in combat with said ships. You can sloacquire some cash, through picking through the salvage yard, mining, or gambling.

It's not super-exciting, but it's a good time-waster.

Besides, I've been waiting for more people to come, because I'm fairly certain that Diamond, Oth, and maybe Psychomeltdown are the only ones playing it right now. I stopped playing it when I forgot the password to my account.:o Which makes me glad I have a backup.

Oh, and I created a new account as God Slayer.

The Earth is destroyed - space miners stationed in the Asteroids struggle for survival. Gangs of Star Pirates loot old hulks, scavenge resources, attack and raid each other’s ships and fight for dominance of the stars.

It plays pretty fast, and its addicting. You're always looking for your next bit of loot. Its basically played out of a menu, is low graphics, and its free so it doesn't mess with your computer at all. Its meant for office chimps who have a little downtime between projects.(Or as they put it, read webcomics at work) Its built simple and entertaining.

Sell it immeadiately. Those things are more trouble then they are worth. Use the money to by yourself a newer ship model instead.

A new ship will give you more research units, meaning your ship can become stronger faster.

And the nice thing is, it's progressively cheaper to buy the next upgrade as your current ship model gets better and better. Right now it's only going to cost me $1.2 million to upgrade to a Cruiser MK3 instead of the off-the-shelf price of $2.2 million

Still each upgrade is more expensive than the last. In the long term the more ships you jump, the more money you're saving.

When you go to the CFC Fleet screen, click on 'Armory'. You can't take anything out without permission, though.

Guys, how do I gain Crew level? And is there a way to boost my Feul, Hull, Research, and Energy limits? I wish I had a larger fuel thingamajig. I can't do much with 5.

Got them - these were very much appreciated! I am level 13 now, trying to save up for Frigate Mk II (extra weapons/whatever slot). Have enough for Frigate Mk I, but I don't think it is enough of an upgrade on Sloop Mk V I have now. So, it is a matter of getting about another $130K...

TH is just someone that wanted to join our fleet. JC is God Slayer, whom I kicked out and reivinted until he shows back up. Inactive members can doom you once we can declare fleet wars.

Alex when I have enough that I won't fall below my bench mark, you can get that loan or if we get over 500 K in the fleet vault I can start giving out upgrade loans, which would have to be paid back. A temporary tax raise might have to go into effect if we want that to happen.

I think it might not even be necessary, if I go through a few more days, I should be able to get to that mark myself. I need about $275K to get into Frigate Mk II, and have about $160K as of now. It is enough for Mk I, but I don't want to get into it, as it has only 3 upgrade slots, same as my current Sloop Mk V, and Mk II has 4, which should add much to its survivability in combat. I think that I am a bit under-researched now, but that should get better once I get a ship with better research capabilities.

By the way, I've been adding some of my item finds to the Armory. Most were nothing spectacular, but good enough at least for the new members to start with.

Nah, don't add em. Sell 'em. We got pleanty of mid-level stuff in there to help anyone out that takes this seriously. I'm selling any Class I objects I'm coming across and donating them to the armory cause anyone can find them. I also implore you all to keep your consumables as I'm the only one that can distribute them. I've also been thinking about using our fleet funds to buy the fleet some nice toys, but we aren't to that point yet.

Okay guys. Profit sharing. All fleet members are getting $12,000 worth of equipment via the fleet vault. Or we need to get something nice for the fleet, of somekind for Christmas. I was thinking I could remove our fleet armory and have Jim here sell the contents for us so that we can build a lab coat. This would help us reseach, and hey, thats alwasys nice.

I'd like to get an idea of how to research better... I think I am severely underresearched right now, but not sure what should be prioritized. Also, I am trying to spend more time researching now rather than hogging experience points, and thus trying to research instead of raising level. How can I do research in sufficiently large strides? It is pretty frustrating when your best result was about 1.92 points of improvements off a single research effort, and I still need to get much closer to triple/quadruple digit stats everywhere.

Finally, I am currently in Frigate Mk II, and have enough for Mk III, but since I don't get an extra equipment slot, I think I will wait for at least Mk IV. Which brings a question... should I get Frigate Mk IV, or should I wait to get into a Cruiser Mk I instead?

There's really no easy answer for research - you just have to wait until you get to higher levels so that you have enough energy points to get a big research cycle. The highest burst I've ever got has been 6 something. You just have to keep plugging away at it. I just try to log in every hour when I'm at work and don't have time to attack people, and research.

Basically its a package of items that increase your energy and research, rather than weapons, shields, or engines.

Best way is the forementioned package of gear. You'd loan yourself the gear from the fleet, and then you'd put it back when you are done researching. Finally, I am currently in Frigate Mk II, and have enough for Mk III, but since I don't get an extra equipment slot, I think I will wait for at least Mk IV. Which brings a question... should I get Frigate Mk IV, or should I wait to get into a Cruiser Mk I instead?
It saves you money in the long term if you do, but it will give you an immeadiate improvement if you don't. Thats your descion to make though.

I am about $75K away from Frigate Mk IV... I think I will have enough for it tomorrow. Finding a few items, including at least one rare (Finely Aged Alpha Centauri Rum) has definitely helped. Still need to decide if I want Mk IV or if I should wait to get into a Cruiser...

My opinion, Slot Machines are the best, sure-fire way to increase your $$. Even if you lose a little, you more than make it up and then some.

Also, don't bother with Sloop Mk IV. You should be going from Mk I to either Mk III or Mk V, then to at least Frigate II or IV (my current ship), then to Cruiser Mk I or Mk III, and so on. The reason for that is you get extra upgrade slots on those models. With Sloop Mk IV, you get exactly as many equipment slots as with Mk III, but Mk V gives you an extra one. The reason I am going for Cruiser Mk I instead of Frigate Mk V is because of 6 equipment slots, even though I've got more than enough to get into Frigate Mk V now. Only about $90K away from the Cruiser though...

Well, I'm was thinking of waiting until Frigate MKII, but considering that I'm not finding too many new items, maybe MKI will be good enough for me, and that's still $250,000, but Frigate gives a large boost in Hull Points over a Sloop, so I might do it, once I hit $300,0000 But I'll check to see if there's anything that would benefit me beyond increased search turns, success in salvage forays, and so on.

Frankly, your level is more important in your hull points than your ship, so someone of high level in a shitty ship will have more hull points than someone of low level in a better ship. I would suggest go into Sloop Mk III or Mk V if you can afford it. I'd send you some cargo, but I spent most of my reserves on that Cruiser Mk I that I was waiting for, so I don't have much to send your way just yet. Still, give me a few days, and I should be able to send about $100K or so your way. I tend to make about $100-$150K per day or so with slot machine and whatnot.

Speaking of slot machine, the reason it works well is because it costs you only $50 to play, and you get more turns as you level up. There are two types of jackpots, small ones give you $500, and "regular" jackpot is $1000. So, do the math. One small jackpot is enough to offset ten turns of losses, and one regular jackpot is enough to offset twenty turns of losses. And since you will get quite a few of both, you will end up with positive returns either way. At my current level (24, soon to be 25), I am routinely winning about $20K per day on this, supplemented, of course, by salvage forays, asteroid belt runs (not that great, but if you're lucky, you can actually make some $$), and item sales from hourly space debris picking. My total daily income has lately been howering just around $150K per day, as a consequence.

At the very least, it has gotten me through some major boredom during parts of my day at work when things were slow...

No don't that you should always do the slots. Its free money, and you can play off the winnings. However I'm a big fan of 50/50 even though 20% of the cash invested is returned to the game. I generally go in small amounts, all less than $5000.

The secret to that is to have at least 2 or 3 fuel points above what you need for the Salvage. I haven't been lost in space or failed a salvage in... a long time.

All right, Jim, I need a bit of help here, with the same little twerp. He's got an absurd amount of defense (with mods, almost 700), and although I have higher total weapons stat than he does, doesn't seem to help.

Oh, and he's on to online attacking again (my attack to see his stats was offline, so totally unprovoked).

I suggest we put him on our hit list for the fleet, and SY him long enough that he doesn't get out for longer than it would take for one of us to locate and put him right back where he belongs.

The only thing I am possibly concerned about is if they are the overly researched group with low overall level. I am level 25 now, and have reasonable Weapons stat (although something better than Neutron Emitter Arrays could probably improve that), but still somewhat lacking in other stats... so that might be potentially problematic.

EDIT: never mind about the last part. I've offline attacked a few members of the fleet, and it sounds like I can take out most of the fleet if need be... none of them appear to be particularly well researched for their respective levels. Looks like our "friend" is an anomaly rather than typical for the fleet.

Look at the items that boost energy and research, and those are my goal for the fleet. What'd you do is loan yourself the coat for an hour, and then before you logged off, return it back to the fleet.

And Diamond, out their stats here so we know which members can attack whom.

Wohoo! Finally found a fusion blaster array! 1 of my Gravitron beams are now avablible in the armory and loaned back to myself, because engines aren't that imporant.

Just one suggestion... I don't think we as a fleet are notable enough in SP yet, but it might be a good idea to refrain from posting our stats in a thread, should anyone from SP decide to spy and see what our stats really are at any given moment. Other (non-CFF) people's stats, however, that's a whole other story (evil grin) :D

EDIT: Also, what kind of donations and/or items would you like to see donated to the armory? Other than potential lab coat items, anything in particular you are looking for? I get tons of low-level items that I tend to sell for cash, but occasionally I get some decent (uncommons, even an occasional rare) weapons/shields/drives, and some rather decent consumables (including a few rares, though I don't have any at the moment). Any "rule of thumb" on what kind of items (especially consumables) you would like to see donated instead of sold off?

No consumables. I consider those a personal donation to use when I'm in trouble as I'm the only one who can take them out:innocent: I'd stick to uncommons and better. Personally though, I'm about to go through an inventory of our armory, and ask Diamond to sell them for us. (him keeping a 10% cut for his services, the rest being donated to the fleet until we can buy some heavy weaponry and a lab coat for the fleet.)

Oh and we need two more members to get a war fleet. Ask around, and see if you can get anyone to join.

As far as war fleet thing goes, it would be a good development, but at the moment we have quite a few lower-ranking members with lower stats. Do you think it might be a good idea to get some of the lower-stat members to level up, and have certain stat-based expectations?

It's just his ridiculous (for the level) defense... I have better weapons and engines stat, but my defense needs a bit of increasing before I can do something about it. Say... 500 defense, and I will roll over anyone in their fleet.

There's not really much in there that's going to sell for above-normal rates, though. You'd do just as well to straight-up sell everything except maybe the overamped laser battery.

The Class III and V stuff can be sold for a marginal profit I think, and I have an FBA I could put up. (Those things are going for $880,000, and we could undercut that and still make x100 profit.)

A labcoat is a configuration of equipment you use in order to maximize your research and energy - in effect so that when you are researching, you get better results, and get better stats. Generally, especially once you get to better ships (i.e a Frigate Mk IV, a Cruiser or anything better) with more slots, you would want to keep some equipment laying around even if you are not using it, solely for the purpose of changing configuration.

For example, Deep Belt runs can be quite profitable, but in those, you should install equipment that maximizes weapons and engines, and not worry too much about shields... the idea is to do as much damage as quickly as you can, and not to let the NPCs do the damage to you. When attacking other pirates, you might want to have good shields, and switch your engine items to shield items while in that config, and so on.

I would hang onto it unless you really really need cash. It's valuable as part of a lab coat (which is a research-friendly suite of installed items). If you do decide to sell it, average going rate right now seems to be around $1.3 million.

Is there anybody here besides Diamond that buys points on a fairly regular basis or as some part of a long-term strategy?

Personally, I'm holding off on buying large amounts of points until I get a ship with, say, 6 slots. Then the money's gonna come in real slow anyway, as far as it comes to upgrading, but hopefully, I'll still get enough to buy some....

The two main reasons I buy points:

1. So I can do craploads of debris searches. I've found a Pulsar Beam, a Class X Drive unit, and several other nifty things.

2. It's the only really safe way to raise a lot money quickly, again with debris searches. I WILL have a Dreadnought. Oh yes. It will be mine. :)

Another thing, it seems pretty damn hard to sell an item or items on the market and get more money, mainly because people aren't going to buy if you charge too much over what the game takes it back for and it often takes long enough for marketed items to be bought that I'm offline by the time somebody wants the 3 Class III Energy Shields I'm selling as a hypothetical example. And as you know, non-Notorious pirates have the cash paid on hand rather than it going straight to cargo.

And even if I was Notorious, it'd seem that likely profit would be marginal. $12,000 as opposed to $7,500? Sure, it adds up, but I'm not guaranteed to find any good items every time I search.

Buy 1 of every stock. Its a good way to see what is doing well, and it can payout.

Once you buy a stock, you can track how well it's doing by clicking the 'View/Sell Stocks' button. It'll show you the average price of each stock, and what the price currently is.

I'd say sell all of Commons (might as well sell it to the game instead of putting it on the market), and keep the uncommons around. When we are ready to be a war fleet, we should be able to outfit all the new recruits with uncommons or better.

As far as the sales proceeds, we should put those in the Vault, and use them eventually for better labcoats - preferably with enough items for several fleet members to be able to borrow at once. I have my own labcoat as is (Class I Energy Tech and 7 Cyberlink AIs), but it might make enough sense to make sure that everyone has access to at least that much, and preferably to Class III Energy Tech and better AIs.

I would also suggest that we keep the fleet small for now... I don't think we are ready to be a war fleet yet. Once we have at least 5-6 level 30+ with at least 1000 in each base statistics, we should be ready.

Additionally, I would suggest a requirement for the fleet members to do research. In order to gain entry for the new members, I would suggest at least 500 minimum stats in each of the three areas, and in order to be promoted to the command rank, at least 1000 stats minimum in all areas. I am not quite there yet, but working on it... got my engines close, and will work to get the rest of the stats to the same place. At the same time, leveling up should not be considered a major requirement. The idea is to get a fleet with higher stats than levels alone would suggest, and be able to transition into a war fleet easily, quickly, and hopefully with a victorious result.

Finally, I think we should set a few rules for the fleet, namely our rules on online attacks, raids, retaliation, and helping one another. I believe that all fleet members should be able to call upon each other to assist in defending against a raider/online attacker, or even a fleet of such. Also, we should make a policy that unwarranted online attacks/raids upon us will result in disproportionate retaliation, all the way up to frequent hiring of mercenaries if need be. This should establish our reputation as a fleet not to be messed with. Also, this should go with the idea of a fleet that will not online attack/raid unless in retaliation, or special circumstances (i.e. fleetless lower level target with a lot of cargo can, and should be attacked/raided - after all, we are pirates).

What do you guys think of it?

It only goes directly into credit when you're Notorious. Otherwise I think it's only about 20% into credit, the rest into cargo. That's why just about every seller in the marketplace is notorious. :D

So why in the hell did I lose that fight? I've got more than twice as much weapons, 6000 more defense, and almost twice as much engines. With the superior engines I got a +90HP bonus, taking me to 1030 vs. his 680. He's got a 38% malfunction chance. And yet he does twice as much damage and wins the fight. :confused:
