Successful 1848 in Europe

This is so general and obvious that it almost feels n00bish, but I think its a really undervalued topic in AH. Few do something with it. So why not start at the broad and general.

So is there a way to have a largely successful "Spring of Nations" in Europe? United (Greater) Germany, United Italy, Free Hungary and as bonus (though thats considerably harder and next to impossible) Free Poland? All as more or less democratic states? Can that all succeed?

There was a guy at AH.com who tried to start a TL where the 1848 revolution brought down the A-H Empire and the North Italy (sans Sardinia Piedmont) became a country which allied with the Frankfurt parliament.

There were a number of issues with his grasp of the military situation however.

Seems to me that you need to have the Tsar occupied somewhere out of reach of Europe like the Ottomans, Persia, China whatever... could be interesting.
