There was a possibility of Chinese intervention in the AOR, so there might have been a reason to do so. Ignoring that, what would happen if the nukes were sent back in time as well?

It's certainly possible, because as a member of the US Navy, I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons on Navy warships.

What I was thinking was that WW2 would end pretty quickly; once Germany, Japan - and perhaps Russia - were hit the Axis would collaspe. They wouldn't know that there were only ten(ish) nukes at hand.

If that happens, what sort of social change takes place without the war? Would the Zone still come into existance?

On the other hand, just like their irreplaceable munitions, they have so many nukes to throw at the Axis and/or Soviets before people call in their bluff.

And I will repeat my statement that the MNF battle group had nukes- Combat Maces armed with controlled fusion warheads. Certainly not city killers (though implied that the Dessaix could have wiped off Hawaii and half of California), but potent enough to be considered tactical weapons.
