What do you think it would take for the US Army to reflag all battalions as regiments? I think it'd be a great way to preserve regimental heritages, and you could completely randomly assign the names.
The $700 toilet seat is a running joke, but it certainly has basis in truth. We have a system on the ship that has about as much processing power as a laptop. It occupies many separate components. We have processors designed in the mid 90s that are several thousand dollars a piece. But the government is absolutely fine with it.
I understand they're designed to be more rugged than anything you would find at home, but that rugged? I doubt it. Just another cost overrun.
