F16's from Vermont and Dassault Mirage F1's from Quebec are flying around to see what is happening.
A trickle of 1876 people are starting to arrive at bridges and roads. State Police in Vermont are helping to direct them and answer questions. Border guards in Quebec are doing something similar.

Both places have a general call-up of National Guard and army.
They also start to think about strategic reserves, and what they have and what they need.

Atlantic Federation

A call up has been made to mobilize 50% of our reserves. This should be accomplished in 5 days.

A rotating combat air patrol is currently in place over the federation.

The bulk of the ships of the remnant us navy that have been able to, have put to sea. One damaged destroyer
has managed to dock at Portsmouth naval yard, after a collision with a freighter.

Default Vermont

Vermont is starting to stand down its military.
There are still greeting parties set up at all roads, but no longer expecting a fight. Some of them give out free samples of Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

Constant day and night aeriel checking of all US areas near Vermont continues, looking for anything that resembles an army approaching Vermont. If they see that, an army is airlifted to the matching area in Vermont, and the mobilization starts again.

In the Sonora desert a Cascadian ULF transmitter sends a three letter code.

Beginning 40 minutes later across half the Pacific, nowhere closer than 600 miles to the North American Coast, CN submarines expose antenna to receive new orders. In most cases the orders are to interrogate a new communications satellite in stationary orbit 22,300 over the Equator almost directly due south of Baja at a designated time in the following three days. In a few cases the subs receive a high cypher micro burst keyed to a one time pad. Unbreakable in anything close to a human timescale, the 10,240 bit code was transmitted by one of five E-6A TACOMO aircraft flying seemingly random courses across the Pacific via tight laser beam, one that could be intercepted only if a receiver was in direct line of sight between the aircraft and the submarine receiving the message.

Even if intercepted, the message would, at 100 TRILLION gigaflops a second take someone without the proper one time pad 15.4 billion years to decode. It was as close to unbreakable as codes came, unless one had somewhere to work throughout the life span of three solar systems, in which case the message would no longer be of much tactical use.

By the time the last E-6 landed in Hawaii 36 hours after takeoff, the entire Cascadian SSBN fleet had been re-targeted, as had the Land Attack SLCM aboard the SSN fleet. Re-targeting of the T-SLCM on-board surface ships was accomplished by hand to hand transfer starting ashore, via F-14D to carrier to Helo to ship's commander and weapons officer.

It had taken nearly two full days, but 1800 Cascadian nuclear weapons, once targets on locations across the Planet were now redirected to new locations. The missile and weapons officers at sea and ashore were careful not to notice that their new coordinates were all within the once friendly confines of North America.

New orders in hand, the subs again disappeared, hoping, praying, not to be disturbed again until they made port in the weeks or months ahead.

We request that you move additional air forces to Colorado and other locations close to Pacifican territory.

Pacifica has four hours to begin its withdrawl. If they do not pull back, or at least make assurance that they will do so we are going to act. If you have a Civil Defense plan, you may want to get it started. Ours has already begun

This could be damned messy.

Default US

Everyone knows that the last bits of Reconstruction were going to be ended in a few months in US history. So, Grant does that now, freeing up forces for the "Alaskan adventure".

Vermont send a small contingent. It is also training US troops at its mountain training center.

Vermont's 20 F16's patrol all areas of the US in range to prevent any hostile aircraft from entering the 1876 US.
