Default A new member, but I see some familiar faces here.

Hello all, I'm A. J. Nolte, a lirker at Baen's Bar (where Chris Nuttall has been giving free publicity with every post he makes) and sometime ah.com poster. I've decided to wander on over here and see what all the fuss is about. I expect you'll be hearing more from me soon.
As to who I am, I'm a PHD candidate in world politics at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. I'm an avid reader of alternate history, science fiction and fantasy, and have tried my hand a bit in written form, although not much. I look forward to participating, and hope I can write some things a few of you might enjoy. I'm also avidly interested in politics (no great surprise given my field of study) and theology (probably not a huge surprise given the university I'm studying at, though I'm not Catholic myself).
Oh, and FYI, I'm blind, so I won't be making maps. If, however, you ever enjoy one of my timelines or scenarios and have map-making skills, volunteer cartographers are always welcome.

Hey, a familiar face!

I remember debating stuff with you on the other site back in 2007. Heh, it's been a while....

Anyhoo, it's good to have you here, AJ - welcome aboard!

Yep, I remember you; I think you made some pretty helpful comments on the Greater Norman Empire TL, which I'm resurrecting on the other site and thinking about restarting here. It has been awhile; grad school got pretty busy and so my posting got pretty scanty. I gather a lot of folks from the old place have jumped ship?

I'm also from AH.Com (although I've never been so much as warned) - but anyway, welcome aboard!

I'm glad to have been of help back then - I was quite a bit less knowledgeable and a good deal more abrasive back in those days...

I'd certainly love to see your Greater Norman Empire TL here, and I'm quite sure that a lot of the others here will agree with me on that.

And of course, any sci-fi or fantasy projects are more than welcome as well - even though CF.net started out as an AH site, the focus has shifted to speculative fiction in general. There's a lot of sci-fi stories in the Writers' Forum, and there's also a number of original sci-fi and fantasy projects in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Forum.

Indeed, a lot of people from the old guard moved on to other sites, or simply stopped posting alltogether. There have been a few incidents at AH.com over the years, and the overall atmosphere of the site has changed a lot, too.

There used to be a bit of bad blood here and there. But fortunately, that has pretty much blown over.

Glad to hear there's no bad blood. Kairos Fateweaver: I've never been warned either, but then I never really posted anything terribly controversial there either.

I'll look forward to wandering about, especially in a couple weeks when the semester is officially over.

Welcome to CF.NET - there is definitely a wealth of material available for reading, and creative writing (AH, SF, and so on) is always welcome here. I would suggest Encyclopedia Post-Apocalyptica as a good starting point for collaborative projects, and CF.NET Library (in the Writers Forum) as a good collection of fiction posted here (both finished and unfinished, ranging from SF and AH to military thriller, fantasy, horror, and everything in between). Glad to have you on board!

Thanks. Whatever happened to Shadows in the East? Really enjoyed that TL back in the day.

It got stopped for various reasons, and got a reboot, which is stalled on its second chapter.

*Glares at Matt.*

We've got much of it all storyboarded and such, its just that finding time to sit down and write it is complicated with two writers....

Default Welcome

Welcome!

Sorry, it seems I did not say that before.

I definitely remember your name from those days now past

Make sure we know where what you post is; at least for me, noticing new stuff can be a bit of a lottery at times, except in the writers forum which I check daily

Best Regards
Grey Wolf
